SBTi Net-zero Commitment and Targets
Through TCFD introduction, regular response to CDP questionnaires, and setting of science-based targets via the SBTi mechanism, Chunghwa Telecom has lay out its short-, mid-, and long-term carbon management targets to achieve our target of net-zero emissions by 2050.
- Chunghwa Telecom joined the Taiwan Alliance for Net Zero Emission in 2021, publicly committed to carbon reduction 50% by 2030, RE100 by 2040 and achievement of net-zero emissions by 2050, and been admitted to the RE100 initiative by 2023
- The commitment to NET-ZERO target by 2050 of Chunghwa Telecom in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and the NEAR-TERM target of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels is approved by the SBTi.
- In 2022, the Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are 714,000 metric tons. Through energy conservation actions and phase-out of high-energy-consuming equipment, a carbon reduction of 9.6% compared with the base year of 2020 was achieved.
To meet the carbon reduction requirements of the SBT for the ICT industry, we have implemented carbon reduction plans for “data centers, mobile and fixed networks, and office buildings.” The carbon reduction plans shall be further designed with reference to the carbon reduction methods recommended by various international organizations and our government and in accordance with the current status, The carbon reduction plans for each year to come will be proposed as supporting materials to the SBTs submitted.

- NET-ZERO：Publicly committed to achieving NET-ZERO emissions in accordance with the SBTi target-setting criteria by 2023.

- Chunghwa Telecom commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2020 base year. Chunghwa Telecom also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 22.5% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.
