S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the rebalancing of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. (“Chunghwa” or “the Company”) has once again retained its position in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) -World Index 2024 and secured its position in the DJSI Emerging Market Index for the 13th consecutive year, garnering international acclaim for its remarkable ESG initiatives and outstanding sustainability achievements.
In 2024, more than 13,000 companies participated in the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) conducted by the S&P Global, highlighting its rigorous standards. Chunghwa achieved the highest scores in 13 out of 22 sustainability criteria within the international telecommunication sector, distinguishing itself among major global telecom operators with capital exceeding USD 2.5 billion. This accomplishment reaffirms the Company’s leadership in shaping a sustainable future. Chunghwa indicated that, while firms with significant capital often face greater environmental responsibilities, the Company has achieved remarkable ESG results through its strong focus on sustainability, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability through tangible actions while delivering strong business results.
Chunghwa Telecom stated that it remains steadfast in its commitment to innovation and value creation as it addresses growing global concerns about ESG, the challenges of climate change, stricter regulatory demands, and technological transformations. The company is leveraging AI to drive sustainable transformation, ensuring transparent, real-time, and equitable information disclosure to provide stakeholders with a holistic view of its sustainability, business, and financial strategies. In August, Chunghwa published the inaugural bilingual Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) report, becoming the first Taiwanese telco to do so. It also became the first operator in Taiwan to commit to achieving Net-Zero by 2045, ahead of the global 2050 target, and received SBTi’s verification for its Net-Zero goal. The Company has also proactively applied AI technologies to ecological conservation through AIoT-based monitoring systems for wildlife. Additionally, Chunghwa has worked closely with supply chain partners to advance ESG initiatives, spanning carbon management, biodiversity, and sustainability performance evaluations, aiming to create a sustainable industrial ecosystem.
Chunghwa Telecom received The Asset’s prestigious ESG Corporate Excellence Award - Jade Award in November. It has also again retained its listing as a constituent of both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Emerging Markets Index. Moving forward, the Company will continue to strengthen its efforts in corporate governance, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability.
