Sustainable Revenues
Chunghwa Telecom mainly operates in Taiwan. Although it does not have operating sites within the European Union, Chunghwa Telecom has proactively adopted the sustainable economic activities defined by the EU Taxonomy to establish an internal identification process, which systematically inventories and analyzes the alignment between the Company’s revenue sources and its sustainability objectives. In 2024, the activities at Chunghwa Telecom that met the classification criteria and made a substantial contribution generated a total revenue of 11.62 billion, accounting for 5.05% of the total revenue of the Company.
Chunghwa Telecom comprehensively assesses all operational activities to determine if they meet the technical screening criteria for their respective classifications. A compliance analysis against the “Do No Significant Harm” (DNSH) principle is carried out, covering activities of three categories as follows:
- (1)Chunghwa Telecom has established multiple high-class IDCs across Taiwan, offering enterprise clients with a secure and stable hybrid cloud integration environment and colocation services, along with the commitment to the transition to 100% renewable energy by 2030. Energy-saving and advanced cooling systems, aligned with TGG-level standards, are adopted at the Banqiao IDC. Furthermore, with ISO 50001 Energy Management introduced and LEED Green Building certified, the IDC reduces energy consumption per unit and carbon emissions.
- (2)hicloud offers resource computing and storage services of flexible value-added billing, powered by the high-efficiency green IDCs with a PUE at merely 1.5. In 2024, with the carbon reduction performance estimated to be 53.51 metric tons of CO₂e, in place of energy-demanding, self-built IDCs, the service helps SMEs accelerate their adoption of low-carbon IT solutions.
- (3)Equipment with green energy and power-saving labels are adopted. Also, suppliers are required to present Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for equipment carbon footprints and to introduce low-power consumption designs in servers and network devices (such as high-efficiency ARM architecture and liquid cooling systems) to raise energy efficiency. The equipment complies with ISO 14067 carbon footprint standards and has to pass U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR 5.0 regulations. The power supply units achieve 85% efficiency at 50% output, and over 82% efficiency at 20% and 100% output.
- (4)Chunghwa Telecom offers building ICT systems, 5A smart building systems, and intelligent data center services. These offerings are seamlessly integrated across all phases—from architectural design and construction to post-build management—enabling the deployment of diverse smart building solutions. The company also supports clients in obtaining greenhouse gas emission certifications, such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-2.
- (1)The MOD multimedia platform delivers high-definition digital audio/video content, gradually replacing conventional cable TV and consumables like DVD, reducing indirect carbon emissions associated with logistics and consumables manufacturing. In 2024, the new MOD STB504 set-top box obtained the “Carbon Footprint Label” from the Ministry of Environment in Taiwan. Also, through lifecycle assessment and analysis, it meets the ISO 14067 standard, enhancing the overall carbon reduction effectiveness of user terminal equipment.
- (2)Hami Video, developed by Chunghwa Telecom, is a multimedia streaming application offering both paid and free content. The product was certified to ISO 14067 carbon footprint standards in April 2024 and obtained the “Carbon Footprint Label” from the Ministry of Environment in Taiwan in June 2024.
