Chunghwa Telecom Expands into Guatemala, Entering a New ICT Market in Latin America

  To deliver more comprehensive, reliable, and high-performance ICT services to Taiwanese enterprises and local businesses across Central and South America, Chunghwa Telecom, through its subsidiary Chunghwa Telecom Global Inc. (CHT Global)—which has maintained a strong presence in the United States for more than two decades and possesses regional advantages in regulatory familiarity and operational deployment—officially established Chunghwa Telecom Global Inc., Guatemala in Guatemala City on October 1, 2026, and held an opening ribbon-cutting ceremony. This marks the extension of Chunghwa Telecom’s service footprint from the United States to Latin America and the Caribbean. Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Lin Chia-lung led an economic and trade delegation to the ceremony, where he delivered remarks and joined the ceremonial ribbon-cutting. Débora Alvarado, Minister of Financial Administration of Guatemala’s Ministry of Public Finance; Julio Eduardo Orozco Pérez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala; Vivia Chang, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Republic of Guatemala; and other distinguished guests also attended the event, underscoring Chunghwa Telecom’s firm commitment to deepening its presence in the Americas, actively expanding its business across Latin America and the Caribbean, and reaching a new milestone.

  As the largest economy in Central America and a key regional gateway, Guatemala has in recent years continued to promote national digital transformation and the modernization of both the public and private sectors, generating growing demand for ICT infrastructure. The country is also an important strategic hub for enterprises developing supply chains across the Americas. With its critical geographic position connecting North America and Latin America, Guatemala is one of Taiwan’s most important diplomatic allies in the region. On the same day, a signing ceremony was held for Taiwan’s support of the Resilient Backup Data Center project for Guatemala’s Ministry of Public Finance. The agreement was signed by Ambassador Vivia Chang and Pai Ming-cheng, Vice President of Chunghwa Telecom’s International Business Branch, demonstrating Chunghwa Telecom’s substantive contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation through ICT expertise.
