Chunghwa Telecom announced the expansion of its strategic partnership with Nokia, a global leader in connectivity for the AI era. The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 5G-Advanced, Pre-6G, and AI-native intelligent networks initiatives, reinforcing their joint ambition to lead the industry’s transition into the AI Supercycle and define the next next-generation Pre-6G network leadership.
Rong-Shy Lin, President of Chunghwa Telecom led a delegation of senior executives to MWC 2026 to witness the signing ceremony and to experience first handed the joint collaborations at Nokia’s booth. The partnership builds on strong operational success in 2025, where the companies successfully deployed Predictive Hardware Analytics (PHWA) in Chunghwa Telecom’s commercial network. The AI-powered solution achieved nearly 80% accuracy in hardware fault prediction, fundamentally transforming network operations and enhanced customer experience. In 5G-Advanced evolution, showcased trial results of Pegatron Corporation’s MC2521 RedCap (Reduced Capability) smart surveillance camera at the 5G AIoT Innovation Park, Asia New Bay Area in Kaoshiung. Compared to conventional 5G cameras, the RedCap camera achieved a 42% reduction in power consumption, demonstrating the significant potential of 5G-Advanced in accelerating energy-efficient AIoT deployments.
Building on this strong momentum, the two companies will expand bilateral cooperation based on AI SuperCycle, working closely on accelerating 5G-Advanced applications and Pre-6G, next generation beyond connectivity. Chunghwa Telecom will integrate Nokia’s AI for RAN solutions, and MantaRay portfolio to enhance autonomous network optimization, anomaly detection, and intent-based operations, improving service quality, resiliency, and total cost of ownership. Furthermore, the collaboration aims to enable a seamless transition to 5G-Advanced RAN capabilities to serve as foundational enablers for innovative AIoT use case in RedCap/eRedCap devices, lag-free real-time applications powered by L4S (Low Latency, Low Loss and Scalable Throughput) technology, and AR/VR/XR wearables and innovative applications. Lastly, both parties will jointly drive the evolution and trial of pre 6G solutions including spanning AI models, scalable compute infrastructure, sensing technologies, data frameworks, and integrated services that extend beyond traditional connectivity to new digital services.
Rong-Shy Lin, President of Chunghwa Telecom quoted, "We are entering a new phase where AI drives networks toward higher reliability and sustainability. The PHWA trial has proven that predictive intelligence significantly enhances operational efficiency and sustainability performance — values that have long been the cornerstones to Chunghwa Telecom. Moving forward, we will accelerate AI and automation deployment, strengthen 5G-Advanced capabilities, and pioneer Pre-6G innovation to deliver greater value to customers and industries across Taiwan."
Pallavi Mahajan, Chief Technology and AI Officer of Nokia said, “This is a powerful step toward truly AI native networks. Our work with Chunghwa Telecom already shows how AI can meaningfully improve network performance and efficiency, and this next phase will accelerate the path from 5G Advanced to 6G in the future. Together, we’re laying the foundation for intelligent, autonomous networks that will unlock new value for customers and industries across Taiwan.”
Chunghwa Telecom is setting the pace in 5G advancement, strengthening international collaboration, and executing 5G-Advanced × AI Supercycle × Pre-6G strategy — positioning Taiwan at the forefront of the next wave of AI-integrated digital innovation.
