Chunghwa Telecom received Top 5% distinction raking in the Sustainability Yearbook from S&P Global, a leading international sustainability assessment organization, for its third year in a row due to its consistent excellence in ESG practices, and was awarded the honor in the ceremony held by S&P Global on May 22nd.
S&P Global leverages its influence on capital markets to drive further penetration of corporate sustainability. This year, it held the 2025 Sustainability Yearbook Distinction Ceremony in Taiwan for the first time, bringing together top-tier companies from various industries. Chunghwa Telecom was invited to share its sustainability practices at the prestigious event, shining on the global stage with its outstanding ESG performance.
The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook selects companies based on their Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) scores, only companies that exceed a defined CSA score threshold and rank in the top 15% of their industry worldwide earn a place in the Yearbook. There were 7,690 companies considered for inclusion in the 2025 Sustainability Yearbook, and only 780 were selected, highlighting its rigorous standards.
Chunghwa achieved the highest scores in 13 of 22 sustainability criteria within the international telecommunication sector, standing out among major global telecom operators with capital exceeding USD 2.5 billion. For the third consecutive time, Chunghwa’s ESG score has been acknowledged by S&P Global as one of the top 5% global telecom operators, as well as included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices (formerly known as the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, DJSI), as both a World Index and an Emerging Markets Index constituent, reaffirming its position as a global sustainability leader.
Chunghwa Telecom stated that the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices track the world’s top sustainable companies and serve as a crucial reference for global investors. The company has been selected as a component of the index with an ESG score in the top 5%, and also featured in the Sustainability Yearbook, underscoring its strong ESG performance and execution capabilities. Amid the wave of digital transformation driven by AI, Chunghwa Telecom leverages AI technology to drive a sustainable transformation. Upholding the spirit of innovation and value creation, the company is committed to transparency, timeliness, and fair disclosure of information, helping stakeholders fully understand its business strategy, financial performance, and sustainable development, continuously earning international recognition.
Furthermore, Chunghwa Telecom indicated that the company has implemented a top-down, cross-functional strategy to drive a sustainable transformation across the organization. Internally, ESG performance is tied to executive compensation, with its weighting planned to increase to 30% in 2025. An internal carbon pricing mechanism is also in place to encourage technological innovation in carbon reduction and energy efficiency across the business. Externally, the company is collaborating with 75 key suppliers to move toward net-zero and sustainability goals. Leveraging its core ICT capabilities, the company has developed diverse environmental solutions, including the iEN Smart Environment Service platform and the Energy Operation Center (EOC) with integrated carbon management functions. These tools enable enterprise customers to reduce carbon emissions across their operations while unlocking new business opportunities. Additionally, sustainability is integrated into product development, where certified carbon footprint products play a key role in enhancing consumer trust and reinforcing brand loyalty.
