Restoring Habitats of Endangered Species in Taiwan and Preserving Biodiversity
As part of Chunghwa Telecom’s eight-year reforestation and sustainability project aimed at planting 150,000 trees, the company has thus far reforested 38.14 hectares and planted over 77,139 trees. This latest initiative focuses on the No. 1920 Windbreak Protection Forest in Haomei Village, located in the southwestern corner of Budai Township, Chiayi County. Prioritizing native Taiwanese tree species, the project builds a multi-layered landscape forest beneath existing Casuarina equisetifolia and Melaleuca trees. A total of 1,800 saplings—including species that attract butterflies and birds, such as Pittosporum pentandrum, Ardisia sieboldii, Scaevola taccada, and Phoenix hanceana var. formosana—will be planted. The project aims to enhance scenic and recreational value while protecting coastal forest ecosystems and promoting soil and water conservation.
