Exploring IOWN and Innovative 5G Applications: Insights from NTT、Singtel and Chunghwa Telecom at the Global Telecom Summit 2025 in Taiwan

The highly anticipated Global Telecom Summit Forum at the 2025 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) officially kicked off on March 20th. Industry leaders from around the world have gathered to explore “How Next-Generation Technologies and Solutions Redefine Human Life in the AI Era”.

Under the theme “5G AI Applications: How Next-Generation Technologies and Solutions Redefine Human Life”, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), in collaboration with the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), invited distinguished speakers from NTT (Japan), Singtel (Singapore), National Telecom (Thailand), FPT (Vietnam), and Delta Electronics to share insights on collaborative innovations, digital transformations, 5G advancements, and the latest developments in smart network technologies.

NTT and CHT: Focusing on IOWN All-Photonics Network and Innovative Applications.

At the forum, Dr. Yosuke Aragane, Vice President of the NTT IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) Development Office, provided an in-depth analysis of future trends in digital transformation and 5G applications. Dr. Aragane also shared NTT’s extensive experience in network security, corporate strategies on technology, and global service deployment.

The IOWN technology features low latency and high transmission capabilities. Chunghwa Telecom continues to collaborate with NTT to integrate these technological characteristics into innovative applications for smart cities and enterprises. This includes holographic projection technology that can connect internationally through the IOWN APN (All-Photonics Network), allowing performers in different locations to collaborate in real-time for remote co-performances, creating an immersive interactive experience. First showcase at the 2024 NTT R&D Forum, this technology will be adapted at the 2025 Osaka Expo, demonstrating its potential in entertainment, culture, and corporate collaboration.

Delta Electronics and Pegatron: Committed to Developing IOWN-Related Equipment.

Moreover, Delta Electronics is actively integrating IOWN technology into smart energy and smart building solutions, leveraging real-time monitoring and AI-powered optimization to enhance energy management, ensure more precise power distribution, and improve system stability. Meanwhile Pegatron is focusing on smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 applications, incorporating IOWN technology to enhance data exchange and AI decision-making in factory operations, optimizing production processes and boosting overall efficiency. As the demand for smart manufacturing continues to rise, the adoption of IOWN will provide businesses with more competitive solutions, driving industrial upgrades and digital transformations on global supply chain.

Singtel, AIS and CHT collaborate to develop applications on the Paragon platform.

In recent years, Chunghwa Telecom has been strengthening its global partnerships, working closely with Singtel and AIS to drive advancements in 5G, AI, and edge computing. At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Spain, Chunghwa Telecom, together with Singtel and global telecom solution leader Ericsson, showcased the collaboration on the jointly developed Paragon platform, Chunghwa Telecom and Singtel provide enterprises with on-demand 5G Standalone (SA) slicing services, accelerating Taiwan’s industrial digitalization.

The forum featured Chong Choon Jeng, Senior Director of Business Development, Digital InfraCo at Singtel, who introduced how the Singtel Paragon platform plays a crucial role in accelerating 5G deployments and adoptions for enterprises in the region. The platform that specifically facilitates Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC), public cloud integration, network orchestration, and Telco API monetization in the enterprise sector, further advancing smart city development and industrial digital transformation.

CHT: Integrating 5G and AI for Resilient and Sustainable Networks

Dr. Rong- Ruey Lee, Vice President of Chunghwa Telecom Laboratories, introduced the latest applications developed by 5G and AI. His presentation covered the convergence of fixed and mobile networks, cloud-network collaboration, and sustainable development in telecom services. Dr. Lee also highlighted Chunghwa Telecom’s advancements in broadband networks, cybersecurity, and open network research, emphasizing how these innovations support enterprises and government in addressing future challenges.

The forum also featured presentations from Thailand's National Telecom (NT) and Vietnam's FPT Corporation, focusing on the themes of 5G and smart cities, as well as transforming telecom with applied AI. They presented how innovations in connecting these new technologies and obtaining sustainability ,and shared how leveraging data analytics and generative AI for next-gen solutions.

Global Collaboration for a Smarter Future

Closing the forum, President of Chunghwa Telecom, Rong-Shy Lin, underscored the transformative impact of AI, 5G and next-generation network technologies like IOWN. He noted that these advancements are not just improving efficiency but also reshaping industries and daily life.
