Network environment

  • Headquatered in Taiwan.
  • 5 overseas locations, including 3 in Asia-Pacific, 2 in America and Europe respectively.
  • All bases have MPLS IPVPN and broad-band Internet
  • Headquarter: MPLS IPVPN 30Mbps / Internet 100Mbps
  • Asia-Pacific locations: MPLS IPVPN 10Mbps / Internet 50Mbps
  • U.S. and European bases: MPLS IPVPN 5M / Internet 20Mbps

Problems and solutions

When the customer uses MPLS IPVPN Internet for distribution, it can be quite complicated.

  • Using SD-WAN to supply web-based graphic settings make it more convenient for the customer to manage and complete settings over a single graphical interface.

When the network segment changes, or a new service base is added, one would need to connect each separately and then make readjustments, meaning that the customer's management personnel have a bigger burden to deal with.

  • When SD-WAN is used to bring several management units together for the most important SD-WAN command center, it requires ensuring the accessibility of the network and equipment. Chunghwa Telecom set up its SD-WAN and its management units on its backbone network, meaning that the customer need not worry about set up.

When a new network management personnel takes over, turn-over of work is often not smooth.

  • With Chunghwa Telecom's SD-WAN network management services, it can better understand the customer's network environment and use needs, meaning it can help the client to plan, make settings, and manage their network.
  • Chunghwa Telecom provides a complete management system.
  • The professional maintenance personnel of the 24-7 managed service center provide services in both Chinese and English.

Network environment

  • The customer's headquarters is in Taiwan. There are 2 bases overseas, each having Internet and MPLS IPVPN services, with a large gap in the bandwidth between MPLS IPVPN and Internet
  • Using small-bandwidth, important applications mainly over the MPLS IPVPN route: ERP, voice
  • Using large-bandwidth applications (such as video conferencing, file transmission) mainly over the Internet IPSec route

Problems and solutions

Traditional routing would need to encounter a complete disconnect before switching, meaning that the customer's transmission quality would be poor, and the downtime for important services would be extended

  • Using SLA (Packet loss, Latency, Jitter) to solve network switching conditions, we can reach a high level of transmission quality and reduce downtime.

Video conferencing IPs often change. Distribution settings often need to be readjusted, and make management generally difficult

  • SD-WAN can be distributed over multiple application layers, allowing Internet IPSec or MPLS IPVPN to be used for transmission when the traffic pattern is video conferencing, meaning that there is no need to use IP to distribute network routes.

When the internet switches to MPLS IPVPN, the usable bandwidth is reduced, meaning lower quality for important applications

  • Chunghwa Telecom has set up an SD-WAN end-to-end Qos mechanism; and with its ample experience in Qos planning, it can ensure quality for applications even during high traffic.

Network environment

  • Customer headquarters in Taiwan
  • Three branches are in Taiwan, Vietnam, and China
  • The customer used AWS services, and its AWS VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) was set up in Japan, so each base needed to access the VPC in Japan.

Problems and solutions

Access of AWS over the world wide web does not provide stable quality; and there is also the possibility of internet blockages.

  • Chunghwa Telecom's backbone network connects to major public clouds.
  • The customer used multiple networks to connect locally to Chunghwa Telecom's SD-WAN backbone nodes, and through the backbone, it was able to connect to multiple public cloud services.
  • MPL uses MPLS IPVPN to access AWS
  • Enters SD-WAN region Internet
