The characteristics of high bandwidth, low latency, and large connection availability of 5G make it the best technology for digital transformation. Taiwanese startups are full of energy and have a variety of innovative ideas for 5G applications. Therefore, Chunghwa Telecom established the 5G accelerator to pilot and assist Taiwan startups, rapidly develop 5G solutions that can be implemented and meet industry needs.

To achieve this goal, Chunghwa Telecom invests numerous resources. The headquarter office is in charge of 5G mapping and strategic investment. The Telecom Research Institute is responsible for technology R&D, and expert consultation. The network branch is responsible for building the actual 5G network, and field deployment demonstration. The data branch takes responsibility for innovation evaluation and the establishment of the College of Telecommunications. Furthermore, the three major business groups of Chunghwa Telecom provide support for the startups including initial counseling, business opportunities matchmaking, and field construction in the later stage.

The most important goal of Chunghwa Telecom 5G Accelerator is to assist more innovative and entrepreneurial startups in Taiwan to commercialize their innovations and seize global 5G business opportunities.

CHT stands with startups and create business opportunities

To respond to the global trend of startup innovation and 5G applications, Chunghwa Telecom established a 5G accelerator as early as September 2018, expecting to take advantage of its own information and communication strengths, in collaboration with worldwide strategic partners, and connect with industry experts and R&D resources. Chunghwa Telecom provides startups with business opportunities by attending international exhibitions, providing entrepreneurship training and support, 5G testing environment, ecosystem resources, as well as matchmaking occasions.

Accelerate technology and business development

Chunghwa Telecom 5G Accelerator is a CVC (Corporate Venture Capital) accelerator focusing on 5G x DX digital transformation. This year (the fourth batch) will focus on three major applications: digital transformation, Metaverse, and sports technology. Chunghwa Telecom joins forces with strategic partners, including international accelerators, to recruit startups and to provide various resources like matchmaking with 5G manufacturers, one-on-one entrepreneurship training and guidance, and authentication environment. CHT will continue to integrate innovations and applications of 5G to create exponential value.

Since its establishment in September 2018, Chunghwa Telecom 5G Accelerator has nurtured 37 high-quality startups. The first batch was focused on AIoT, and the second batch focused on 5G AI, AR/VR, and drones. The third batch consisted of more innovative and more mature business models with wider fields of applications, including 5G enterprise private networks, smart factories, smart healthcare, and Internet of Vehicles. The innovative 5G applications of Chunghwa Telecom 5G Accelerator has covered every aspects of our daily lives.

Chunghwa Telecom invites global partners to jointly provide resources to accelerate the development of new technologies. By connecting with more than 50 domestic and foreign institutions and enterprises in the "Taiwan 5G Industry Development Alliance - Chunghwa Telecom Pilot Team", CHT also joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) and CDIB Capital Innovation Accelerator in 2021 that allowed selected teams to leverage Chunghwa Telecom's telecommunications resources. CHT will constantly invite more companies to help nurture technology and business development of startups.

Chunghwa Telecom believes that the key impact of 5G will continue to increase. Upholding the original spirit of the 5G pilot team, Chunghwa Telecom hopes that more startups will have the opportunity to join the 5G accelerator. From enterprises to startups, CHT is the driving force of Taiwan 5G development. CHT will continue to integrate innovations and applications of 5G to create exponential value.
