Chunghwa Telecom partners with Nokia at MWC 2025 to propel 5G innovative applications and pave the way to an AI-driven smart era

Chunghwa Telecom has formed a strategic partnership with global telecom equipment manufacturer Nokia to drive the advancement of 5G-Advanced and 6G technologies. By leveraging cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI), this collaboration is set to play a key role in Taiwan's digital transformation and the evolution of next-generation mobile networks.

Building on its robust 4G/5G infrastructure, Chunghwa Telecom has successfully deployed Nokia's latest high-performance 5G radio products. This milestone has achieved an impressive energy savings of up to 30% while delivering a 5G downlink transmission speed of 2.34 Gbps. This achievement not only strengthens network performance but also paves the way for future advancements and the expansion of innovative applications. Furthermore, it fulfills the goals outlined in the 5G Advanced/6G and ESG New Technology Application Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties in February 2024 regarding mobile network evolution.

Chunghwa Telecom is committed to enhancing network performance while prioritizing sustainable development. At the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC), Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Alex C.C. Chien officially visited Nokia and jointly unveiled the collaboration results. By integrating Nokia's advanced intelligent energy-saving automation platform and features to enhance energy efficiency, the company is accelerating the adoption of AI and machine learning in telecommunications. Chunghwa Telecom will continue testing and deploying these technologies across its network to boost energy efficiency and optimize intelligent management capabilities.

Partnering with Nokia, Chunghwa Telecom Accelerates New AI Applications

The integration of AI technology not only optimizes network performance but also drives the realization of smart cities and digital transformation. The collaboration between Chunghwa Telecom and Nokia aims to deeply embed AI analytics and automation technologies into network management. This will enable automatic fault detection, predictive maintenance, and optimal resource allocation, further enhancing user experience and network reliability.

In the realm of 5G Standalone (SA) networks, Chunghwa Telecom and Nokia have successfully implemented network slicing technology, testing it during large-scale events and demonstrating various use cases. A notable example took place on October 20th, 2024, when Chunghwa Telecom, in collaboration with the Tainan City Government and the National Development Council of Taiwan, introduced the country's first 5G Metaverse. This pioneering city exploration platform seamlessly merged the virtual and physical worlds, leveraging Nokia’s 5G SA uplink network slicing technology to dynamically allocate wireless network resources. This ensured superior performance for targeted segments and customers and provided an immersive user experience.

The collaboration between Chunghwa Telecom and Nokia not only injects fresh momentum into Taiwan's 5G network development but also sets a new benchmark for the global telecommunications industry. Moving forward, both parties will continue their close collaboration, driving the development of smart cities and AI applications. Together, they aim to create greater value for customers, the industry, and society, ushering in a new era of smart networks.

Chunghwa Telecom Clinches '5G User Experience Evaluation' Championship in 2024, Boosted by Nokia's NR CA Carrier Aggregation

Chunghwa Telecom's 5G mobile network quality has garnered widespread recognition, making it the only operator in Taiwan to earn dual certification for the best 5G network throughout the entire year of 2024. Building on its robust 4G/5G infrastructure, Chunghwa Telecom, in partnership with Nokia, has successfully implemented 5G NR CA (New Radio Carrier Aggregation) technology. By utilizing Nokia's latest generation of high-performance radio solutions combined with Chunghwa Telecom's advantage of having the largest mainstream bandwidth resources in Taiwan—the company has set a new record for 5G downlink transmission in Taiwan, achieving an impressive 2.34 Gbps. This accomplishment fulfills the transmission demands required for cutting-edge applications such as high-definition video streaming, the metaverse, and generative AI.

Chung-Yung Chia, President of Chunghwa Telecom's Network Technology Group, stated: "Chunghwa Telecom is actively promoting the development of 5G network infrastructure and application services, building a high-quality network through the integration of Nokia's industry-leading technological products. Both parties will continue to explore the latest 5G-Advanced technologies to further enhance network performance and resilience. We aim to significantly reduce equipment power consumption and deployment costs, thereby providing users with an increasingly enhanced service experience. At the same time, we are committed to implementing ESG low-carbon transformation, moving towards green communication, and striving to become an international benchmark enterprise based on sustainable development."
