    A1: CHT Business Calling Cards include three types of card: the “E.T. Card,” the “CTS030 Card” and the “E-Call Card.” From 1 June 2002, the Chinese and English names have been standardized and the system now supports the CHT Intelligent Network platform. The system includes Chinese and English voice navigation, post-call payment, no card purchase necessary, no annual or monthly fees, and can be used whether in Taiwan or abroad.

    A5: Volume discounts and long-term customer discounts are available for CHT Business Calling Card customers who use the same account as a home phone account. (E-Call and Super eCall not included.)

  6. Q6: What discounts are available for business customers who apply for Business Calling Cards before 30 September 2002?

    A6: Companies can apply for multiple calling cards using the same responsible party name, distribute the cards to employees and enjoy volume discounts on combined billing. Of course individuals are also welcome to apply.

  7. Q7: What is the application procedure for business customers?

    1. Fill out the Business Calling Card Application Form

    2. Attach copy of responsible person’s ID card (both sides) and copy of business license

    3. Seal with large and small seals, and note the number of cards needed

    4. or, seal with company seals (large and small) plus item 2.

    5. Appoint an individual as a window for communication with CHT

  8. Q8: Is there anything I should be especially aware of when using the card?

    A8: Because this card is a type of credit card (call first, pay later), if the card is ever lost or stolen, please make sure to change your password and contact CHT immediately to cancel the card.

    ‚ Overseas: Please call a Taiwan operator for assistance. (After choosing a language, press *5# to connect with a Taiwan operator.)

    ƒ You will not be responsible for any calls made after 24 hours after notifying CHT.

  9. Q9: Is there anything I should be especially aware of when using the card overseas?

    A9: Only overseas fixed network providers who have agreements with CHT can be used. Whether or not the card can be used with public phones or mobile phones is determined by third-party agreement by the fixed network provider. Roaming charges depend on the cellular provider. Charges begin when customer enters the card system, not when the receiver answers the call. Please note: if you are using the card from a hotel room, please inquire whether you can call using the card and whether or not the hotel will charge for each connection.

  10. Q10: Why can I not access the system from some countries? What can CHT do to assist me?

    A10: As mentioned in the previous question, service depends on whether or not the local company has agreements with public and mobile phone operators. If you are unable to access the system, please contact CHT with details including the location at which you were unable to connect (include street and city name), and the situation in which you were unable to access the system. If the system was able to provide any error information, please also let us know so that we can help the local telephone company to solve the problem.

  11. Q11: What is ISDN?

    A11: A11: ISDN is short for Integrated Services Digital Network, a type of internet access service allowing all
    types of end-user equipment to connect and simultaneously transmit voice and data through a
    single network connection.

  12. Q12: What is the ISDN transfer rate?

    A12: Currently, CHT’s ISDN service includes three levels of transfer rates:

    1. Basic Rate Access: provides two 64Kbps (B Channel) communication lines and one 64Kbps (D Channel) control line for each concurrent online user.

    2. Primary Rate Access:

    a. 23B+D: provides 23 B Channel lines and one D Channel line.

    b. 30B+D: provides 30 B Channel lines and one D Channel line.

  13. Q13: What are the rates for domestic direct dialing long distance?

    A13: Current CHT domestic long distance direct dialing rates are:
    Standard: NT$0.035 per second
    Reduced: NT$0.025 per second
    (Long distance rates are the same throughout Taiwan.)

  14. Q14: Where do I buy international prepaid calling cards?

    A14:

    1. Any CHT branch office service center or operations center in the north, central or south regions of Taiwan

    2. Any post office with postal savings service. Postal transfer number is: 18943000.

    3. Major convenience stores, including President Chain Stores, HiLife, Circle K, Nikomart.

    4. On China Airlines and Eva Airlines flights, and in the Communications Service Center at CKS Airport. China Commercial Bank CKS Airport Branch.

  15. Q15: How do I use prepaid cards abroad?

    A15: From a home phone or public phone, first pick up the receiver and make sure there is a dial tone. If
    so, enter the access number (for detailed instructions, see the user manual included with the card). Then follow the instructions provided by the voice navigation system. If using the card with a mobile phone, cellular charges may be incurred by the local mobile operator. In that situation, charges will begin when a customer uses the card system, not when the receiver answers the call.

  16. Q16: What countries can I call from/to with the prepaid calling card?

    A16: You can call back to Taiwan from any of the following 35 countries and regions: Turkey, China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Guam, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, England, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Poland, Canada, America, Brazil, Argentina, Israel and South Africa. You can call to a third country (via Taiwan) from 31 of these 35 (all except China, Indonesia, Greece and South Africa).
    From Taiwan, you can call direct to over 230 countries around the world – any country or region that has international direct dialing.

  17. Q17: What is Mass Announcement?

    A17: Customers record and store a mass announcement message on the Intelligent Network. Then, by calling in on a special number, the public can listen to the recorded announcement. In this way, government declarations, product advertisements, songs, etc. can be distributed to the general public by simply calling the dedicated number.

  18. Q18: How are calls to 0204 Premium Rate Services charged?

    A18: The first 20 seconds of calls to 0204 numbers are free of charge. Thereafter, a beep will sound, and calls will be charged on a per minute basis. If you hang up before the beep, no charge will be incurred. Partial minutes will be billed as a whole minute. Rates vary for each 0204 number, but cannot be higher than CHT’s category rate restrictions.

  19. Q19: Can 0203 Mass Announcement be used for Telephone Voting? What is the difference between 0201 and 0203?

    A19: 0203 Mass Announcement service can be used for telephone voting. Customers need only apply for a 0203 number, and can then set up multiple choices for voting on a specific topic. With the 0201 Telephone Voting service, customers must provide multiple numbers – one specific number for each voting option.

  20. Q20: What is Multi-Function 0800 Toll-Free Service?

    A20: Multi-Function 0800 Toll-Free Service is a service whereby all calls made to the 0800 number are billed to the call recipient rather than the caller, and are routed through the Intelligent Network according to the customer’s routing plan and connected to the specified recipient.

  21. Q21: What is the “Intelligent Network”?

    A21: The Intelligent Network (IN) is a method of providing all types of new, rapid services to telephone service by adding “intelligent” features to the network. By allowing all types of access nodes with a standard interface to access the existing public telephone network, and then adding advanced SS7 signal and X.25 protocol technologies, we can provide a near limitless array of new, rapid and economical telecommunications services. Simply put, IN is still a combination of computer and telecommunication technologies. However, with the addition of new types of functionality, we can provide a much greater variety of novel telecommunications and information services through the existing telephone network.
