About Environment
Chunghwa Telecom's (CHT) vision on "environmentally sustainable management" is to pursue "reduction of environmental impacts", thus CHT will continue to improve its eco-efficiency and to strive to reduce the environmental footprint caused by CHT’s operations. CHT is also firmly committed in using its core competence in responding to global climate change issues, and in creating benefits through energy conservation and carbon reduction measures, so that its ultimate customers can enjoy low-carbon telecommunication services.
Climate Change Adaptation Strategy
The global climate change is already an ongoing phenomenon and concern. Various parts of Taiwan may face different impacts, and the operations of the industries will also be affected or even be forced to shut down. For this reason, CHT considers the climate change adaptation an important issue in planning its future provision of telecommunication services.
Extreme weather events induced by climate change, such as the sea-level rise due to global warming, may affect the premises of CHT’s telecommunication equipment. In addition, water shortages due to drought, added repair costs from natural disasters, and consumer compensation fees, will all add to the maintenance costs in providing telecommunication services. In this regard, through wide-spread education and promotion, CHT aims to leverage the "bottom-up" approach in using innovative solutions to address the issues of climate change adaptation efforts encountered by CHT’s various operation districts.
